Raymond “Stingy Ray” Whiptail is the main antagonist of the Ability Crew. He is a ruthless and villainous rival pirate and is the captain of the ship “Unregistered Vehicle”.Stingy Ray and Abel have a long history together. Lots of people have creepy uncles and for Abel that was Stingy Ray, who for a brief time was married to Abel’s Aunt Elisha. It was Abel who caused the rift between the couple and who caused Stingy Ray to lose his job. Stingy Ray hates Abel with a passion. Before becoming a pirate, Stingy Ray was a disgruntled middle manager at the ‘Sure Ants’ Insurance company who had become the poster boy for the “Peter Principal”. Upper management liked Stingy Ray because he was good at cost-cutting and bootlicking. Corporate was especially fond of the bootlicking because they liked how clean he made their shoes look.
Bindi is a bat from Vietnam with very little known about her early life. She’s the evil genius aboard ‘The Unregistered Vehicle’ but pretends to be subservient to Raymond (Stingy Ray) even though she’s really pulling all the strings. Extremely subtle suggestions of Bindi being responsible for coronavirus when it breaks out on The Cripple Threat in one episode provide a platform to discuss racism and ableism. Bindi and Abel have a complicated relationship (See Bootylicious Buccaneers) with a level of mutual respect for one another…. and maybe more. However, pirates being pirates, they often cross boundaries and end up in plenty of trouble.
